Cranston has acted as peer-reviewer for JASAL, ASLEC-ANZ, Studies in Australasian Cinema, International Journal of Postcolonial Studies, Environmental Communication, OUP, CUP, the Australian Research Council, as a panel member of Tasmanian Literature Board, and for local newspapers. She initiated and chaired the first ‘Writers Reading’ events of the University on the West coast. She launched creative collections (and their sequels) by Pete Hay, Tim Thorne, Graeme Hetherington, Barney Roberts, Island Magazine, Gill Morris’s local history The Journals of Charlotte Cleveland (the first publication in the Friends of the library local history series) and others. Cranston introduced and chaired public sessions for visitors to the University such as Louis Nowra, Elizabeth Jolley, Robert Desaix; served on judging panels for ASAL Literary Awards, and was ASAL Tasmanian Representative during the 1990s and early 2000s.

ASLEC-ANZ
In 2010, along with Barbara Holloway and Elaine Shannon, Cranston initiated the peer-reviewed ejournal AJE (Australasian Journal of Ecocriticism), published through the National Library of Australia. This was the flagship journal of the Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment (ASLE; later, ASLEC). Cranston established the publishing platform and continued editing and journal managing AJE until 2016/17. In 2019, the ejournal came under new editorship, and the name was changed to Swamphen: a journal of cultural ecology https://openjournals.library.sydney.edu.au

CA. is also a member of ASAL, the Association for the Study of Australian Literature. http://asaliterature.com/ In the early years, she co-edited ASAL’s Notes & Furphies ISSN 1447-8986 (a bi-annual small-format non-peer reviewed bulletin), from 1992, becoming sole editor until 1998, published on recycled, unbleached paper. ASAL launched its peer-reviewed journal, JASAL, in 2000.
